Sad News of Rachel Holland

It is with great sadness that i must inform you of the un-timely passing of Rachel Holland on Wednesday 12th March 2008. Rachel's larger than life personality made her popular wherever she went, a person who took life by the horns, even though she had heart condition it never stopped her from having a good time, and thats exactly what she did!

Rachel Hooland
Rachel with her Euphonium at the Whit Friday Marches
Rachel joined NFBB when she was about 14/15, coming to band with her elder brother Ian, both played EEb bass at the time, but the lack of a 2nd Euph. coaxed her off the bass and onto the Euphonium, where she flourished as a player growing in ability all the time, until she finally took over as Solo Euphonium in March 2007, a job she did with great pride. Rachel was one of the most reliable bandsmen you could ever meet, always on jobs and at practice, in fact eyebrows where raised in surprise if Rachel wasn't there!.

Although very serious about her playing Rachel knew how to get a laugh out of most situations, regularly appearing from the back of the stage in the band room wearing an assortment of floral pattern crimpelene garments and a matching hat and wellies.

The problem was Rachel never really let us know how poorly she was, she never told anyone in the band how often she went to the hospital for check-ups, once every three months to be precise, i am not sure we would have done anything differently had we known. The fact is we all enjoyed Rachel's company, her sense of humour, her determination to enjoy life and her beaming smile, she will be missed by all in NFBB and, i am sure in far wider circles.

NFBB send their deepest symapthies to Mum and Ian at this time and hope that these few words will help in some small way

RIP Rachel love NFBB
